January 1, 2, 3, 4

Satruday, January 1 was a travel day; I had photos of our journey, but they are gone-- more on that later. It was a very long day that started at around 3:30am and ended around 10:30pm. All the flights were basically on time, and we made all of our connections.

Sunday, January 2 we got familiar with our surroundings. We changed our rental vehicle for one that had brakes, and went for a drive. We wanted to go to Lac Bay, where Pat and Nathalie were windsurfing, but Joségave us the wrong directions. Pat and Nathalie did hours of windsurfing in very good conditions. I got some nice photos of wild goats, and sea shells that you won't see--more on that later. We finally ended up at the windsurf location and had some lunch.

Monday, January 3 was another windy day so Pat and Nathalie were off for a full day of windsurfing. Trudy and I when up the coast to 1000 Steps for our first snorkeling trip. We saw a sting ray, and I got a few photos that you won't see--more on that later.

Tuesday, January 4 was not a windy day, so Pat, Nathalie, Trudy and myself decided to go up the coast to a couple of snorkeling locations. As I did the day before for snorkeling I packed my driver's license, house keys, truck keys, $40 US dollars, extra batteries, and a couple of extra memory cards for the underwater camera. Today I simply took the memory card out of the camera, as it wasn't full, stuck in a new one, and put the card with pictures on it into the waterproof case. We went to the first location, Andreas II. It had a difficult entry, lots of coral, and some waves. We enjoyed the snorkeling, and you will find some photos below from the trip. Just as Trudy and I were getting out of the water, a number of large breakers starting coming in. Both of us were getting bashed about the coral shore, and suffered a number of scrapes and bruises on legs and back. At some point during this bashing the waterproof housing that had all of our valuables got knocked open. Trudy was carrying it and she noticed $40 floating in the water. I was just about in, and the waves were subsiding. I put my mask and snorkel back on and braved the breakers to look for the keys. I almost immediately found my driver's license, but didn't hold out much hope for the rest. I looked for about 15 minutes, and as I was coming in to get out, I noticed the house keys. I searched around in this area some more and managed to find the truck keys. The memory cards and batteries were both gone and I didn't hold out any hope for them. I am not buying lottery tickets for a year, as I have used up all of my luck.

We then moved on to the second snorkeling location. It has a beach type entry, so there were no problems getting in and out.
