January 16th - 2 Dives on the Wild Side

Today started early with two dives with Larry on the Wild Side. We had to be at Lac Bay for 7:50am, and we just made it on time. As we were pulling into the parking lot we realized that we had forgotten our flippers. Fortunatly Larry had two extra sets that we used. Most of the diving that is done on Bonaire is done from shore with some boat dives to the island of Klein Bonaire. The east side of the island is very rough, and no other dive operator has boat dives on that side. The sea life on the west side is different. We saw multiple turtles, multiple rays, and a school of tarpons. Unfortunatly from a photography point of view, the majority of the turtles, and rays were off in the distance, so I was unable to photograph them.

In the afternoon we took a Nitrox course that will allow us to dive using a richer mixture of oxygen, making it safer, and easier on the body.

The two turtle shots are of a Green Turtle, I think.
This is a Southern Stingray.
These two shots are of a Green turtle, I am sure.
I think this is some type of Wrasses, but I am not sure which one.
This guy, and all of the silvery fish below are Tarpon. While it is had to see in the photo, they ranged in size from 2 to 5 feet.

This is Larry's rig.

In the shot below I took three photos and stitched them together. This gives you a sense of the Blue Hole. On the right you can see the coral reef leading down to the sandy bottom. On the left you can see the dive group in front of me. You can also get an appreciation on the clarity of the water. It took us about 45 minutes to swim around the hole.
